Mindful Self Compassion an eight week course

Mindful Self Compassion is an eight week course developed by Christopher K. Germer PhD., leader in the intergration of mindfulness and psychotherapy www.mindfulselfcompassion.org and Kristin Neff PhD., pioneeriing researcher in the field of self compassion. www.SelfCompassion.org. MSC combines the skills of minfulness and self-compassion, providing a powerful tool for emotional resilience.
Self compassion is 'being kind and caring toward yourself rather than harshly self-critical; framing imperfection in terms of the shared human experience and seeing things clearly (mindfulness) without ignoring or exaggerating problems'. With Compassion training, we start with ourselves. Many people find being compassionate towards others relatively easy but being kind and understanding towards themselves a real challenge. Research shows that Self Compassion enhances rather than undermines motivation.
'There is exponentially growing research to show that self-compassion is highly effective in increasing wellbeing. It motivates and strengthens making us more resilient, at the same time decreasing our experience of suffering'. Coming from compassionate strength and resilience within, we are best placed to be able to support others as well as ourselves.
I view this course as a natural development for the 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction training. Just like Mindfulness, Self Compassion is nurtured through meditation practices, developing our natural innate capacty. Dates: October 11th - November 29th, on Thursdays 10.45 - 1.15pm except for week one which will be three hours 10.45 - 1.45pm. There is always a refreshment break each week.There will be a practice day from 11 - 4pm Saturday December 8th. The course is limited to 12 participants and will be assisted by Jo Shanahan.
Cost £220.00 to include the comprehensive folder and the practise day. This fee is payable to Hamblin Hall as all the admin for the course is organised by them. It is advisable although not necessary to have been on an MBSR course or have a mindfulness practice, before embarking on this one.
